1. High Arch (Cavus Foot)
- Characteristics: Very pronounced curve along the inside of the foot; a large gap between the ground and the arch when standing.
- Common Issues: Poor shock absorption, leading to excessive strain on joints and muscles; potential for plantar fasciitis and metatarsalgia.
- Footprint Test: Minimal footprint showing mostly the heel and the ball of the foot.
- Recommended Insole: High arch insoles that provide extra cushioning to compensate for the lack of natural shock absorption.
2. Normal Arch (Neutral Arch)
- Characteristics: Arch is neither overly arched nor flat; offers natural biomechanical balance.
- Common Issues: Generally well-balanced but can still benefit from additional support during high-impact activities.
- Footprint Test: Half of the arch area filled in, showing a balanced curve along the inside of the foot.
- Recommended Insole: Medium arch insoles that provide moderate support and cushioning to enhance comfort and prevent potential issues.
3. Low Arch (Flat Foot)
- Characteristics: Almost no visible arch; the entire sole of the foot touches the floor.
- Common Issues: Overpronation, leading to alignment issues throughout the legs and potential for injuries like plantar fasciitis.
- Footprint Test: Almost complete imprint of the foot with little to no inward curve at the arch.
- Recommended Insole: Low arch insoles that offer structural support and motion control to stabilize the foot and alleviate stress on the ankles, knees, and hips.
