Let us be upfront about the obvious: we make one of the two products in this comparison, and Superfeet has been the category's default answer since 1977. Read accordingly, and check everything we say here yourself.

We are writing it anyway because the honest version of this comparison is more useful than the version where we win every row.

Where Superfeet is genuinely strong

The track record. Nearly five decades, sold through specialty retail and clinics, with a design that has barely changed because it does not need to. That is not marketing — that is a product that solved something.

The heel cup. Deep, firm, and among the best-shaped at any price. A lot of what Superfeet does for people comes from the rearfoot rather than the arch, and this is the part that most competitors under-build.

The structure. The rigid stabilizer cap does not deform under load. If what you want is maximum structure and minimum give, that is exactly what it delivers, and it delivers it consistently.

Fitting support. Their retail partners will fit you in person, and the color-coded arch height system makes it possible to walk into a store and leave with roughly the right shape.

If you want a firm, structured, proven insole and you do not mind a break-in period, Superfeet is a good buy and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Where we are different

1. What happens between steps

Every insole compresses under your weight. What varies is what happens when the weight comes off.

We build on open-cell foam — interconnected cells that let air move in and out, so the material displaces under load and returns toward its original height when the load lifts.

Most insoles in this category use closed-cell foam, which is made of sealed gas bubbles. It molds well, costs less, and feels excellent new. Under repeated load those sealed walls buckle permanently. The industry calls it pack-out, and it is why insoles stop working long before they look worn.

We are not going to tell you what is inside a Superfeet, because we have not tested one and neither has anyone else writing about it. What we will tell you is how to find out in two seconds:

Press the arch of any insole hard with your thumb. Hold two seconds. Let go and watch.

A foam that recovers fills the dent back in. A foam that has packed out holds the impression.

Do it to both. Do it to the one currently in your shoe. That test costs nothing, requires trusting nobody, and tells you more than either of our marketing pages.

2. The break-in

Superfeet's own reputation includes an adjustment period — commonly one to two weeks, and some people never get comfortable with it. That comes from a rigid, continuous shell meeting a foot that is not used to it.

Our support frame is open through the middle. It runs as a U rather than a continuous plate, carrying load along the edges of the arch and leaving the centre unbridged, so it holds a tall arch and still gives as your arch loads through a step. Above it, your foot rests on foam, not on the frame.

The support is firm. The way it meets your foot is not. In practice that usually means a shorter and less punishing adjustment — though "usually" is doing real work in that sentence, and any supportive insole takes some getting used to.

3. Choosing by feel rather than by height

Superfeet segments by arch height across their line — you pick the shape that matches your foot.

We do the opposite. Every model uses the same arch, and what changes between them is the foam: softest, highest-rebound, impact-responsive, thinnest, deepest cushioning. You pick by what your day does to your feet, not by measuring your arch.

Neither approach is better in the abstract. Theirs is better if your arch height is the thing that has been wrong. Ours is better if you have the right shape and the wrong feel — or if what has been failing is durability rather than fit.

Where we are behind

Reviews and track record. They have decades and we do not. If long-term evidence is what you weight most heavily, that is a real argument and we do not have a counter to it.

Retail presence. You can try a Superfeet in a store in most cities. You cannot try ours.

Range of arch heights. We build one. If your arch is genuinely low, their line has options ours does not.
